Default H22's in ek civics?

sup fellas, i tried the search the forums and research about h22s in ek's, but i couldn't find that much, is there a DOWNFALL in h22s in eks? i mean you can buy the complete swap for like 2500, and people spend like 3000+ for gs-r, and you get more power and torque from h22s?? so wats the deal?? or is it just they don't know? thanks guys

I think that everyone is afraid that the H22 won't be able to handle as well as the b-series counterpart.

I can't give an accurate speculation seeing as I've never taken a ride in an H22 powered civic.

But..there are a few things that I know what would keep me away from an H22.

1. Bolt in kit. That alone is like $400.
2. Aftermarket Support. There are 10 b-series products for every 1 h22 part
3. Pistons. On certain H22's, you have to resleeve the block in order to use aftermarket pistons..

It looks to me like the B18C1 would be cheaper in the long run...
but, I must admit, an H22 hatch would be very quick.

there is plenty enough aftermarket support to make it fast.

go there, read all of it, do some searches and then ask us some questions. I warn you we have been asked SO many times about our swaps that we can get rude But, so you know, the differences in the swaps are minimal. What works in the EG works in the EK, you only need different kits.

Ive done one in a 99 Si.you will need new mounts, shift linkage from a prelude, but it should come with the engine.Shiftlinkage box to hold it under the ek chassis.I think place race is the only one who makes the kit for an ek so far so you would have to get there axles too.For the wiring,i used a skunk2 0bd2toobd1 conversion harness....i modified the si haness to work with the 0bd1 h22a engine.Hope this helps!

a friends has a H22 in his eg hatch, its gutted but the motor is stock exceprt for IHE, and he ran 13.3 at around 100 (not sure exactly) and 13.4 consistantly....now he waited like 3 months for the motor mounts, payed around 500 for them. so that all eventually worked out

but the only thing he has said (i havent rode in it only 1 seat) when taking shard turns like an off ramp or something he has excessive front nose dive, and he has said numerous times he should have kept his b18c but wiht that he gbot a 13.9 wiht stock exaust

i ahve done the h22 swap in several ek chassis. as a non biased person i would say that a strong b-series motor would be more adviseable. some of the eks had axle problems others had cornering problems and h22 are not that fast to deal with all the trouble . just put a b20-vtec or type-r and be done with it(opinion)

I think if you want to go fast in a straight line the H22 is a good powerplant. Build that up and turbo and you are going to have a fast Civic if you can get traction. I have also heard ups and downs about the handling over the years. Some people say it can handle pretty well, others say it doesn't handle well at all. Of course there is no exact science to determine this handling equation. It is all personal opinion 90% of the time. I have never owned a Prelude powered Civic, but based on word of mouth I would think you would be better off swaping in a B-series motor. Just seems like less hassle over all. But it is your choice and your preference so do what you like.

Another thing to look at is if the civic is lowered also, the handling will be very lousy unless there is a good camber kit installed also. With an h22a,you definetly need as much tire patch contach you can get on the ground.
