Default H22 civics.....

Anyone on here with that swap? also how are you satisfied with the handling and are there any traction problems? Would an H22 be worth it or ITR? Let me know what you guys think and have experienced.

my buddy has one in his ek hatch. this thing pulls strong. but agin, the understeer IS a problem. no matter what people say on how u can fix it. it will not come close to a b-series hybrid in the twisties.

Yea, yea, yea. All you b-series boys talk down on the H22. No pun intended. I am a very happy owner of a H-series in a eg and it handles good. Yea, its true, it is a little front heavy but guess what, Ive NEVER been beaten by a eg with a B18C5!!! And ive raced my fare share of them. But its totally up to you man. Im not gonna begin to downtalk the B-series because theres no reason I should. They are some of the greatest motors that honda ever produced. I look at it as we hatch eg owners should be on the same side and stop talking about the best swap or which one is better. We should all just have fun whoopin domestics . Any how, whatever you go with, type r motor or H22, just have fun. That is the most important part of having a Honda!

My friends shop in Houston (Jisatsu Racing) has many civic's they swapped H22's into. We'll minus 2 since over the past month two have been in accidents. One actually had a jap spec H22 in a 98 civic. He had an ITR motor but decided to go H22. I myself have a fully built B16A2 and have no regrets, but if you can do it go for it. I know it's difficult to keep the a/c though. Also I believe you have to find someone to get an intermediate shaft made. If you would like to know more check there website at http://www.jisatsuracing.com.
Good Luck!

most people who want to go h22 don't want to turn, they want to go straight. I know of 2 type R's that went h22 this winter and 5 ek civic's that dropped the b18c1 and went h22. and btw the h22 civic (preety much stock) rips modded type R's bad plus you can do 150mph no sweat

Yeah see thats the thing, Im not look'n for any road handling skills cause I have 3 project race cars for the course already...one being YeahLS's integ....so Im just look'n for some str8t line power...tired of playing with b16's cause they are a dime a dozen....LS/Vtec, hell by the time I get it at a descent baseline I myte as well dropped in a C5...so I see it like this, I either go B20/vtec and or H22.(if I decide to go EG, otherwise Im just drop'n a C5 into an EF and calling it a day) So, I appreciate you guys responses but just let'n you know what my motives are...also the understeer isnt so bad that I cant have a lil fun in the canyons ryte?(dont take it really fast in there anyways, no guardrails!) More info would help, thanxs.

To gain "real" power nothing stays "o.e"....but I understand your point.

do want you want. h22 in civics are getting more and more common. i personaly have have a 94 ej with a JDM h22 and i love it. put some money into your suspension and you have a well rounded car.
it was harder to put the h22 into a civic than a b motor, but the 150lbs of tq is great!!! can't get that stock in any b motor. peace

Hell yeah, the 2.2L torque is awesome....it would be really hard to get the same out of a c5 or c1...Now what would you guys say about a B20/vtec vs. H22?

always remember that more displacement owns. fully built b20vtec=good
fully built h22=even better

i'd say built b20/vtec. I'm getting a pretty nice build on mine at the end of this month...~185 HP at the wheels, 150TQ at the wheels...all on the stock b16 head..most of the build is in the block. now build the b16 head up (we all know what kinds gains you can get from a built head on a b16) so just think about it...easily 200 WHP and more torque than the H22, nice 'vtec' top end. In the long run, there's alot more you can do to a b20/vtec because you can basically do everything guys can do with a vtec B-series, but you've got the torque of the H22 (which is the only reason i would consider doing the H22). what all can you really do to an H22? look at the readily available performance parts (rods, pistons, cams etc) for the B series you've already got. now comes the issue of cost. yes, what it take to do a *good* b20/vtec (don't do it if you're not gonna build the block) is more than what an H22 is, but by the time you spend money on custom mounts to shoehorn that bad boy in, installation etc....the b20/vtec doesn't come out very much more expensive at all. and it drops in b20/vtec

H22 has larger valves, larger combustion chambers, which means better breathing espicially when you figure in that the piston speed in these motors is higher than the B20 also, plus there is two tenths of a liter more displacement, this is why the H22 has more torque than the B20VTEC. I used to have a H23, you could punch that Lude at 2 thousand RPM and it has more torque than any B20VEC ive ever riden in.

Yeah,Im starting to feel the B20 a lil more.....cause of cost purposes now. power and torque arent too far off from the 2.2L either, plus not a whole lot of custom factors to deal with. What pistons did you go with in your B20 block? Also I know once the PR3 head is played with the lil motor will breath reallllly well and power will be made regardless. Also cam suggestions, JUN3's or Skunk2's ....remember my head will be built so I can run any cam suggested. Thanxs..

Dont forget torque isn't everything. What is the redline on an H22? Now look to what a stock C5 revs up to, then add mods and you'll be revving like a bike. Now look at the H22's gear ratio. Now look at the fast revving gear ratio on a Type R. And look at the world's fastest ALL MOTOR Honda(not boosted). It uses a B series motor. I can go on and on but my point is I rather swap a B series motor in a Civic. Just seems more practical to me.
