H22 timing?
There is a secondary belt that drives the water pump and another pully. what function does the second pully have. the helms manual shows how to time it. Is it posible to get this shaft 180deg. out or does it not matter. could it cause the car to run like ****?
OK ,the secondary belt runs the two balance shafts off the crank. To get them in time - on the first shaft (closest to the exhaust) line up the marks on the gear with the one on the block. as for the other you must pull the plug by the timing cover and use a dowel rod or 6mm bolt , mark off a place 3" from one end of bolt . turn the shaft until the bolt slides into the block you hit the three inch mark. mark will line up with edge of block. remember crank must be at TDC (top dead center)there are timing marks on gear and block for that too. balance shafts r there to keep engine at better balance at high rpms. Keep them where they are and then install cam timing belt . i know of people that took out the balance shafts to reduce the eng drag . but not recomended if daily driver.
I used the 6mm bolt to line up timming on that balance shaft. I was just wondering if the hole on the shaft goes completely through the shaft or stops half way in the shaft. Is it possible to get it 180 deg out or is its design not matter as long as the 6mm bolt goes in it?
So this is just a fancy version of a harmonic balancer that other manufacturers have used?
