timing belt question
everytime i install the timing belt, i line up the timing gear and the crank, then put the belt on the crank then tensioner then water pump then timing gear, everything is still lined up and the tensioner is turned loose 180 degrees when doing all this, then the helmes manual says turn the crank till the timing gear moves 3 teeth to get the slack out, but after doing this the gears arent lined up anymore, even after rotating around, any suggestions n another way to do this?

turn it 3 teeth or 3 rotations, cause it says 3 teeth in the helms manual, but while you turning the crank the 3 teeth it moves he crank a tooth off whe it takes the slack out

if the belt is on and you are turning it over 3 teeth there is no way that they are getting thrown off. The TDC mark on the pulleys might not point straight up anymore but as long as the cams and crank are synchronized you are fine.

the belt is on and they are lined up, but the tensioner is loose 180 degrees, then it say turn it three teeth, but there is soo much slack inbetween the cam and the crank that it isnt lined up after the slack and tensioner is tightened and a hondatech told me to turn the crank two roataions to see if they are lined up still and they arent
and when i put a timing light on it i could only get it to advance to 12 degrees, last time i timied it i could range up to atleast 20 over by adjusting the distributer, plus my compression numbers dont make any sense, i just want to make sure its right and it doesnt seem like it is to me

well the jdm motor i had in last had a one tooth shorter belt, but they swore it was the same motor as the d16z6 i had, it was stamped zc but a sohc zc, i swapped ca gears with the zc motor, cause the other was bent a little, but i counted the teeth and they had the same number of teeth and part number was the same, i guess that long side should be tighter so maybe i should put the other ca gear back on or use the shorter belt from the zc motor

Re: (f150harleytruck7)
I just recently did a t-belt and had the same problem your having. Line all the marks up and then pull up on the tensioner while its loose to tighten the belt then tighten the tensioner. Its not what to book says but the belt is tight. I tried 30 times to get the tensioner to self tighten but couldn't get it to work. I have put 1,000 miles on the t-belt since and it works just fine. Hope this helps.
