Default H22 cam timing

the rule of thumb for b-series guys is that for every one degree change in intake cam timing, there is a 2deg change in ignition timing. this is because the intake cam turns the distributor

does the same rule apply to the H22, only for every one degree of change in EXHAUST cam timing, there is a 2deg change in ignition timing? the difference being the exhaust cam on the H22 turns the distributor.

so, if i retard my exhaust cam 1deg, i have retarded ignition timing 2deg.

Default Re: H22 cam timing (DOHCvtecDX)

here's why i think my theory is correct:

i checked the timing before adjusting my cam gears. it was at ~18deg (full distr advance).

so, i jumped the service connector, adjusted the gears to +2i/-1e, and started it up. at full advance of the distr, the max ignition timing i could get is ~16deg.

so, that makes perfect sense. i retarded my EXHAUST cam timing -1deg, resulting in retarding the ignition timing by 2deg

anyone have any experience or input on this?

ok, so i've been informed that with OBD1 H22, the crank position sensor is in the distr, so cam timing will affect ignition

apparently, OBD2 have a crank position sensor on the crank, so cam timing will not affect ignition timing

again, no input?
