Grinding noise in 1st and reverse? please help
A little while ago, I was in my car and for some dumb *** reason I slammed it into reverse without pressing down the clutch. It grinded and didnt go into gear. now ever since then, when i move slowly into reverse, it makes this very quiet grinding noise, and while still moving SLOWLY backward, I put it into to first, and start to move forward, it REALLY makes this noise of grinding. It will do it when im starting to move forward and letting off the clutch (engaging 1st gear) Once i get going though its fine. It happens when sitting still and taking off in 1st as well. Like i said it seems to only be when im starting off in 1st and reverse when the clutch is still in and im still slowly letting off of it. Im trying to be as detailed as possible. What can possible be wrong with this? Cause i want to get this taken care of people i go putting a new clutch, flywheel and LSD in. thanks.
If you're installing an LSD, you'll need to open the transmission anyway - probably the only way to find out for certain what went wrong. Sounds like internal damage, maybe the 5th/reverse shift fork was bent or ??
I dont know what it could be. I really dont know anything about trannies so my guess doenst mean ****. I can still drive just fine, shifting no problem, long drives, racing.. nothing is wrong. BUT, being that the noise is now there when i explained it, SOMETHING happened. .dunno though.

I am not sure if anyone can say for sure what's wrong without opening it up. Since it started after the reverse incident, I'd say something internal was bent/broken. If you're planning on getting an LSD, there's no need to open it until then, as you'd be doing the same procedure twice if you fixed it first. Drop it, fix the damage, and install the LSD in one shot.
