Default GOT ME!!!!!!

Well i thought it would never happen to me, but... it did. i was tightening my valve cover down and i broke the front right bolt the threads broke off down inside, i took the vavle cover off and its down in there pretty deep, cant get anything around it to twist it out, and i was just putting it back on so i could put oil in my car and start it up with my greddy kit for the first time... It cant ever be flawless, somthing always has to go wrong. any tip's cause this has happend to my friend before but he's at wvu

My friend did this twice while tightening the valve cover bolts down on his sohc motor. Both times he got lucky and was able to remove the stuck broken pieces with a screw driver. Both times the bolt broke under the opening of the holes like you describe. They way both of them broke left a slight notch on the top of the broken pieces. I was able to stick a flathead down in the holes and unscrew the broken bolts. As long as you didnt tighten them really tight you should be fine with this method unles the bolts broke flat, leaving no kind of slip to grab into them.

If you have no way of using a small screwdriver to twist them out you will have to get an easy out. You can get this at any sears, home depot, or lowes. Basically you will have to drill a small hole down the center of the broken bolt then use the easy out (which is basically a reverse threaded drill bit) to drill in the hole and remove the broken bolt. This takes a bit of time to do and there is the posibility of screwing up the exposed threads of the holes.

If you screw up the threads of the hole you will have to buy a tap and dye set. A tap is used to rethread holes. It looks like a screw that has cut outs in it. The tap will actually cut and fix the mest up threads.

Follow these instructions. It's for a different bolt but the instructions are the same.

I did the same thing, bought 2 reverse drill bits. one a little bit smaller for the starter hole then the next bigger bit took the broken bolt right out
