Default Going Turbo----Few quick questions------>

Putting a greddy td05-18g turbo on my 00 si and I've been hearing that the stock rods can only hold no more than 12psi. Is this true and if so does anyone recommend where to get some Eagle Rods?

Also, it's evident from dyno graphs that turbos help out hp tremendously, but is there anything to add to the engine that will also help gain torque??? I mean granted the turbo adds some torque, but are there any other mods to work inconjunction with the the turbo to help make torque without underdriving my other components of the car (for example the a/c no being under driven)???

woha there
lets slow down
1) its not just the rods that will break at 12psi

if your serious about doing it, DO IT RIGHT.
do NOT just upgrade the rods and try and run 15psi.

if you want to run high boost (10+psi) you need pistons, rods and at LEAST a block guard. the best bet would to have the block resleeved by golden eagle or equivlant.

the most important thing is the fuel setup. i have seen stock bottom ends run on 12-15psi BUT THEY ARE RARE and have VERY heavy fuel setups with MANY hours dyno tuning with hondata/aem ems/any other programable ECU.

i think you need to do ALOT more research before you start boosting.

Turbos can make plenty or torque. That all depends on how you adjust your impeller trim and AR ratios. Few people that buy the turbo kits actually mess with these settings. They can't get enough power so they get a larger turbo which makes more lag and leaves them frustrated. Talk to the correct people and you can find a good impeller trim and AR ration for your car. All that stuff above is over kill. It will however mke the engine more stable at higher boost levels like 15+ PSI. You can run 10 PSI safely, Just make sure you get enough fuel. Japanese cars are designed with beefy rods and blocks, they are stronger than lead to believe.

with all the hr pw that u r wanting make sure u can also get some traction.....when up in the 250+ range u will need to seriously think about traction.....just some thought....good luck

I'll give you an example of the setup i'm doing. I have a gsr block that was sent to golden eagle:84.5mm sleeved block, eagle rods, arias low comp pistons. Inlinepro stock headgasket. Head is still being decided on what to do. T4 turbo not sure of all the specifics, but i believe .70 trim. This block will handle around 700hp, but things will break then even with it built. It will see 14psi on the street, somewhere around 300 hp. And 20+psi at the track good for around 450hp. Traction will be a bitch, i'm going with skunk2 coilovers but with 900lbs springs in the rear and some other suspension goodies. I have not listed everything, so before anyone decides to start talking, there is more being done, just can't remember everything.

i agree that at the minimum for that kind of power increase, you should have upgraded your rods and pistons. esp a B16 with a 10:1 CR, it'd be safer to get new pistons with a lower CR.

all horsepower is torque, but its the rate at which torque is applied that most people look at. like bontke said, just do some research to get the best trim and A/R for your engine size and where you would want the torque to benefit you the most. usually the small turbos with small A/R's will put torque in the lower rpm range, while the larger ones will shift the torque boost later. i'm assuming your 18g is on the larger end, and will make torque in the higher part of your rev range. if you want to make more in the lower end, what about NOS? you could use a ball bearing unit and/or larger ex piping to help with the spool up to get the extra torque kicking in asap. Ok, first off let me apologize because I should have clarified what exactly I was getting:
I already have the Greddy Evo exhaust and Eibach Prokit lowering springs.
The kit that I am buying will include the Greddy TD05-18G turbo kit, type 31 intercooler, SRP 9:1 pistons with a blockguard, HKS SS BOV, GReddy E-Manage , RC 370cc injectors (no I dont mean 310s), 2.5" downpipe, 2.5" testpipe, Autometer Boost and A/F gauge, Autometer Dual in dash bezel, Profec B, GReddy TT, Walbro fuel pump (intank), and GReddy oil catch can.
This is all being done on the b16a head. So I what I was really wondering was how the SRP pistons would do with the stock rods. I am also adding a skunk2 intake manifold, MSD ignition, better tires, upgrade the brakes, and cam gears.

Now that we clarified all this, let me restate the question:
How much can the stock rods take with the 9:1 pistons? And which after market rods do you suggest I use?

I do aprreciate all the feedback by the way!

Have the rods shot peened and balanced. THen get a good set of rod bolts (ARP) to hold it all together. You should be fine. With proper A/F ratios, timing and tuning I would say 15 PSI max safely. THat will be more power than you will need....next will be traction and breaking CV shafts abd joints.
