Default Going to see the SMOG REFEREE next weekend.....

ill let you all know the scoope. Here is the deal so far i got a 94 coupe with a JDM GSR motor. No othere mods besides some easy to take off bolt on mods. I called Greedy and they say ther CARB certified. Cool. There sending me the paper work to. My CAI is CARB leagal. Only thing i have to take off maybe is the fuel pressure regulator. ITs just a gauge and controls your fuel on demand but should be fine, but i might take it off just incase i get the real nice ahole. Im going to run high octane. I got a new gsr manifold. New throttle body. Plugs are almost new. NEw oil change. No ECU check lights on. Runs fine. Ill double check all the hose's to make sure they are all on something. I have OBD1 P28 chipped. SHouldnt be a prob IF they ask ill say its USDM...lol...
ITs a 94 motor almost complete stock form... Im going to laugh at the cops that gave me a ticket for mod exhaust when its not its CARB legal.lol

i'm assuming your going to get a bar label, right?
i'll have to double check at the ref station, but i think they'd rather have "matching" parts... jdm ecu with a jdm engine... if it is, don't worry about telling them it's a usdm ecu. i'll double check tomorrow.

I wish you luck! I just got my 89 Civic hatchback certified with a USDM B18c.

Here are a couple comments;

Expect them to look closer at things due to it being a JDM motor. The big thing is that you have to have ALL smog related items on the engine and they have to be USDM. In other words, the "correct" ECU you should have is a P72A1.

An adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a no-no as far as the Refreee I went to.

What item did you get from Greedy? If you are talking about a turbo set-up there are a couple things you should keep in mind.

The first item is that it would have to be legal to the year engine!

The other item is that all an EO number really gets you is past the visual part of the test. It's still possible that the system bumps up your emissions to the point where you will not pass the sniffer test.

If you don't pass the sniffer section of the test, and do have everything hooked up correctly, you may think about gettting a Hondata S100 set-up to tune the engine to pass. This technically isn't legal, but is totally inside the ECU box and nobody would know without removing the cover plate.

Thanks for the advice. I will take of the fuel pressure regulator its eay. As far as the ECU, can i put a sticker on it saying P72A1? Because it realy dosnt make sence to run that ECU. I will have ECU codes from here to tomorrow. THe P28 ECU works and i got no codes. I will look threw my Helms manual and make sure everything connects to the dot. Its just a Greedy exhaust. I have a OBX cat. Stock header with o2 sensor on it. THe exhaust has a resanoator and its so quite. Not like the otheres you hear. My CAI has a carb sticker but it says for a 99-2000 si? Ill double check to make sure the cat is on perfect i think im leaking a little. I never get any codes and it runs fine. Ill make sure i do my part. Thanks guys. Any more tips and im sure ill have that bar... Then after ill go to the races with my hood off and rev it to the cops..lol J/K..

As I recall, there is a sticker on the ECU that says P72A1, but it's a very official Honda label.

I think that you would be better off not making up a story about what the ECU is. If the Referee finds out, in his mind you are instantly a liar and will treat you as such.

You would be much better to keep your mind shut and if he asks just say what it is and that you believe it's the correct USDM ECU for your installation.

Try to keep the whole situation as "professional" as possible! Regardless of how many swaps you may have done, the Referee has seen and reviewed more.

So if you have a P28 and a new GSR intake manifold...how is the computer controlling the secondary runners in the manifold?

Secoundary runners that is a good question. I was thinking about that when i sent it out for porting and etc. I have a 70mm throttle body that is mached to the gsr ported manifold. I noticed that they left the butterflies inside. Weird huh. I dont know how or even if the open and close right. Any ideas? Im no going to tell the ref anyting. If he ask me anything i bought it like that... And i did. I just added some stuff....lol

I believe they stay open yielding top end power but you suffer on low end.

pls keep us posted how things go. is there a way in a jdm motor can be tell what year the motor is. i've heard its only usdm engine that has vin stamped on the block not the jdm version. if anyone is 100% knows abt it pls explain cuz i myself would like to earn a bar sticker. the reason i ask is i have a 95 ex and 94 jdm gsr which is a no-no. i did not realize i purchase a 94 motor until swap was done.tia

you said you had an obx cat...is it a real cat? cause the onyl obx cats i have seen so far were resonated test pipes for race only use (as far as emissions at least)...

going to put on a p72a-1 stock ecu to match the gsr. Going to take off the fuel pressure regulator. And make sure no ecu codes. And put on stock throttle and intake. SO i dont think i should have any problems.. 1 more day before D-Day..
