Getting new head on same timing as block?
Sorry If this sounds like a dumb question, Ive got my bottom end finally all built up, and tommorrow I'm going to slap on the head...but my question is....How do I make sure the timing with the valvetrain is matching and in snyc with the bottom end? I assume I need to rotate the bottom end so that the crankshaft pulley is aligned with a TDC mark, and do the same on the head. If someone could clear this up for me itd really be appreciated. Timing kinda mystefies me. Maybe I can figure it out one of these days...
If it helps 92 DX 1.5L block with a 98 EX D16Y8 head....
Thanks
Jim

this is what i do. rotate the crank til all the pistons are about in the middle. then bolt the head on and install the cam. then rotate the cam so the pointer on the cam gear is pointing up (TDC). now you can put your #1 piston at TDC and put the timing belt on. the reason i do it that way is so when i install the cam initally, there's no way a valve can touch a piston.
line up the mark so crank is TDC...then put the arrow on gear up and theres a llittle hole in the cam u can put something in to keep it lined up then add ur belt and done...
