Default getting to adjustable cams...best way?

hi

I have adjustable cams on my integra. Is it ok to saw off part of the valve cover to allow access to the cam gears for adjustment and leave the timing cable/water pump pulley exposed all the time to the "elements"? I keep my engine pretty clean so there shouldn't be too much of anything flying around in there to hurt things. Just wondering what others do. It seems senseless to keep taking the cover off every time to adjust.

I wish I had some pics of my xGSR. I cut a bit of the valve cover and timing cover on the side only to expose the bolts and cam gear. I then made a cover out of a 6X9 speaker grill. From the top, it looks stock. From the side, you can barely see the camgears, but the grill is removeable. Be a little creative with the dremel. Exposing the entire top of the cam and timing belt can't be too good if a rock flies in......

When I purchased my red valve cover, I took my stock black cover and cut it. When I dynoed my car used the black cover, and put the red one back on later.
