O.K. so the other day I was sitting in traffic and I start to notice an odd smell. Some type of burning. It actually smelled like those old electric cars that went on the plastic tracks with the metal in em'...you know what I'm talking about. Then I noticed the battery light came on for a second. I am using a B20 with a D16 alternator. I think the alternator might be dying/frying... Possible? Anyone with this experience? Does anyone know what cars I'm talking about. Please help.

 

you probably ran over a plastic bag and its melted to you exhaust.

 

whats worse... that,

or running over a dead carcass by accident... it gets on
your header... and your oil pan... and on the engine...
and it JUST COOKS THERE FOR WEEKS... UGH!

 

Or, does anyone else have an idea as to my problem?

 

Could be the cat starting to fail but probably the alternator dumping.

 

battery might be going bad and releasing gases

 

I bet it's the alternator regulator... or something else important inside it. I'd run a B series alternator
