Alternator problems
i did my B18C swap in my EG and like a week later my battery died on me, i got a new one and now that one is dying.
how can i test my alternator to see if it works?
are they easily repaired or do i just have to go get a new one?

Like i told other ppl... dont know if is safe...
But u can find out if ur alternator is good or not by unplugging the batery while the engine is running if engine shuts off ur alternator is gone...
Good luck bro...

Strange things are happening. The guys at the battery place put meter on the poles of the battery when i revved the car the voltage didnt increase, they told me the alternator is dead.
but when i take off the positive lead the cars still runs.
Now the car doesnt start. sometimes i hear a clicking from the starter, other times i hear nothing.
does the alternator run to the ecu?
Is it possible the alternator can be wired wrong ?

nope...basically the the disconnecting the battery and see if it stays on is how you can tell if your alternator is bad bad. But you alternator should be pusing out at least 13.5 volts, cause you battery only holds 12 volts. that what is need to keep it running....so if the alternator just has enough to run, it wont charge. from what it sounds, your starter might be messed up and your killing the battery everytime you try to start you car.
At my shop we will test your battery and charging system"alernator" for free because we want you to replace the bad parts, so just take it to a decent shop and ask for a charging system test, it only takes 10 mins, or like they said go easy route and pull the positive battery cable off see if the car idles ok.
yeh it idles when the positive lead is off. When the people did the battery and alternator test. I increased RPM and the voltage didnt increase. so they told me that the alternator isnt working.
Can a car start with out the alternator?

yea it can start without the alternator. You may have a drain in your system. This happens when something stays on and drains your battery a little bit at a time. Its not very uncommon. Check all the interior lights, or any cicuit that may be on when the car is off

If you have a multimeter you could test that by disconnecting the negative cable of the battery while the car is *OFF*. A normal parasitic draw would be somewhere below .15kA, anything substantially above that would be a problem. Also if you do that with the car on you would likely blow the meter fuse or meter itself.
I would guess is that the conductive brushes inside your alternator are worn and are still transfering current, however not enough to recharge the battery from the initial starter draw everytime you start the car. Unplugging the battery is not a very good way to determine wether or not the alternator is dead, also can be harmful to other electronics, though not likely. Take it in to a shop and have them do a charging system test, they will test the voltage drop of the charge back wire, ground circuit and the current output of your starter under load. Thats the only way to be certain wether or not your alternator is fully functional.
