Default Fluctuating temp gauge

Both my temp gauges(factory and aftermarket) fluctuate while i'm driving. It drops about 15 degrees and then bounces back up. Could the cause be air in the system?

Does your radiator fan turn on when the temps go down?

Once I has something different happening. Autometer water temp. gauge had a sender right in the upper radiator hose. One day while driving, I noticed that when I leave it in neutral, the stock Honda gauge would climb up & Autometer would dive right away. That's @ idling RPMs only. As soon as I'd step at least to 1000 RPM, the stock gauge would start coming down & Autometer's would get up to 200+. I realized that it's my water pump is going: @ low RPM, the pressure is so low that the water wouldn't even get in upper radiator hose, so Autometer's gauge would dive. In the meanwhile, stock sensor sits lower in the head, so because of the lack of circulation temp. would raise & that's exactly why stock one was raising.
I replaced the water pump & it's fine now.
Autometer always flunctuates between 190 & 220F (depending on driving style) but stock gauge is always in the middle unless the temp raises above 235F (in EG).

Although it's not a drastic change in temp, your t-stat may be getting sticky. I would go with OEM if you replace it.
