flex hone or 3 stone hone
searching didn't help much. i done a good amount of hones and they came out looking good for a backyard job just to remove the glaze (no serious builds here). but i have been using the 3 stone piece hone that u can rent at autozone and i only used a flex hone once. i wanna hear what u guys think about using a flex hone instead of the 3 stone hone. thanks
Screw you guys, I'm... going... home.

IMHO the 3 stone hones do a better job than the flex hone (be sure to use plenty of cutting oil) but if you want to do an even better job that makes the rings seat the best with the least unnecessary wear and metal filings in the oil pan, then you should do what is called a plateau hone. It is honing to the right size and crosshatch with a medium (or fine) 3 stone hone, and then afterwards making just a few quick turns and strokes with a fine (or very fine) 3 stone hone. This reduces a lot of the tops of jagged microscopic peaks from the coarser hone yet will leave you with a surface that still retains plenty of oil, has more surface area for supporting the rings, and wears them less as they seat in. Just an FYI. Google "plateau hone" for more info.
