Default First post, VX question

I just became the owner of a 1992 stock Civic VX. I wanted to just see if anyone had a good location or tips for starting points on boosting its horsepower through "small" things to start. It needs more than it has

Engine Model: D15Z1

specs:
1493cc
4 cyl, 16 valve
SOHC VTEC-E
9.3:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
92 bhp @ 5500
Redline: 7000 rpm 97 lb-ft @ 4500

Any starting sites with information or suggestions would be awesome. If i put this in the wrong place I apologize ahead of time, first post after all.

Thanks.

well, if you want to stay SOHC VTEC, I suggest you find a 92+ Si/EX transmission & head + P28 ecu; or just a full blown D16Z6 (si/ex) engine. The VX motor is a total opposite of a performance engine.

give me the engine, drop in a D16Z6 or B motor. Don't even think about toying with the VX motor, NOT WORTH IT!

Why not toy with a VX. Si/EX tranny and head would keep VTEC and give more horsepower than a stock Si/EX motor. Do a "mini-me" conversion if ya can find a head for the right price. Your tranny will be fine for the time being.

i got a VX with EX head, most shops will give one to you or sell them for cheap. Worth it, don't get sucked in by semi's anymore, and i even beat a 98 accord v6 coupe on the highway!!

Your car is designed with fuel milage in mind. Its vtec is engineered toward economy not power, like all the others. Also the transmission in your car has long gears. It takes forever to move that thing, you have to turn off the a/c to go through an intersection. If you swap out the tranny for a 92-98 civic si/ex, you'll have way better acceleration. I know you said small and transmission probably doesnt sound small, but the truth is its the easiest upgrade you can do to help your "small" engine.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I'll start looking around at some of them. Oh and even though it is stock VX, if you know how to use a 5spd you can make it move, trust me I just need a few more horses now and then, like when i dont feel like down shifting in 3-5 while just crusing around.

This is why you need a different tranny.

[QUOTE] This head is from my '95 honda civic ex sohc vtec motor. It will fit most other sohc honda motors including (honda d16a series, d16z6, and d16y8) It is in very good condition and comes complete with everything: Cam gear, VTEC solenoid, VTEC Camshaft, Valve Springs, and Valve/Camshaft guide assembly. THis does not include the valves (they have already been sold seperately). Very well maintained, has less than 79k miles and ran perfectly at the time of removal. If you have any questions e-mail me at: dhearn1@uic.edu QUOTE]

thanks again for the comments and suggestions
