Default Finally finished...turned the key and ...nothing.

Well, I finally got to turning the key aftering changing everything. I checked if I had any CEL's and luckily there wern't any. However after removing the ecu fuse and trying to crank the engine over, since it was bone dry, I was greeted by silence. Nothing occured. After I took the key out I heard a few quiet beeps. Now the only things that are one the block that were originally there are:
abs unit
starter
alternator
ac sys
cooling sys
bottom block
So the alternater and starter were working last I drove the car 3 months ago.
Any ideas? Anyone in San Antonio with the free time is more than welcome to come over and trouble shoot this with me.

If there is no noise when trying to turn over, then it is without a doubt your battery. If your alternator isn't working then car tends to still turn over or start.

I know the battery is good. I have a charger and I charged it up the night before plus the voltmeter is giving me 12 volts. Also I have both the tranny and engine grounded, however I thought it was a ground problem as well. There aren't any other grounding wires beside the engine and tranny one yes. I've done way too much so know I can't remember everything .

Checked those visually last night. However I should go back and check for continuity with the multimeter. Thanks.

I would also have to say that it sounds like a battery problem. Try charging your battery and giving it another shot.

This may sound kind of ridiculous, but make sure you have the ground strap on your valve cover. Don't ask me how I know this!

Check all your fuses, check circuit continuity, check all grounds and most importantly, check that everything is connected.

When I did my swap i spent days and days going over every little thing. I thought i had covered it all. when i went to turn it over it would crank but wouldn't fire. I was stumped intill my father came into the garage, pointed to one plug on the drivers side shock tower and said, "shouldn't this one be pluged in?" DOH!

Often the most important factor in a sucessfull swap is another set of eyes.

Put the voltmeter across the + stud on the starter and the tranny casing. Check the voltage while trying to start it (may need some long leads or a helper). If you don't see any voltage, try moving the ground lead from the tranny casing to the (-) battery terminal. If you see voltage here while starting, then you are missing a ground. Also check the voltage from the tranny casing to the (-), yes (-) terminal on the battery while trying to turn the engine over. A good ground shouldn't show more than ~1V between these two points while the starter is turning over.

The other thing to check is if the motor turns over freely. I've seen rebuilds too tight for the starter to move initially.

Good Luck...

Okay checked over everything again and all was as it was supposed to be, yet the engine didn't turn over. By now I'm ready to give up, but Heather (coolest girl in the world) tells to try it one more time. I'm thinking, hell nothin's changed...nothin's gonna happen, but I'll humor her. So I hop back in the car, put the key in, step in the clutch pedal-wait-a-minute. Step on the clutch pedal . And she turns over, however after a few interupted minutes of cranking the engine didn't start. But hell I'm just happy the thing turned over. I guess this is what I get for driving an automatic for over 3 months

I had a similiar problem. My car started up the first try, but then after a few minutes it wouldn't start again, AT ALL. It ended up being a ground problem. We didn't have the ground strap tied to the valve cover...

Another silly stupid thing....there is the ground connected to the battery....I would clean all of my grounds with baking soda and water 50/50 and then make sure they are all on metal and not paint.....sand paper works there.

have you checked the ground to the starter? It won't turn over if that's not hooked up. . . .

Listen to breaka_1_9!!

The ground straps are what provide that negative signal to the starter..
one on top of the motor near the valve cover..
and the main strap that connects near the base of the transmission..
