I'll second that. My 4.71fd m2f4 whined like hell. Its fine. That was on a fresh set of bearings and all.

well.....hmmm. got this email from jim at pic performance....

so who is right?? i just want to make sure nothing is wrong...im **** about everything

btw, i put brand new bearings in when i installed the FD. even though it really didnt need it.

"Mike,

The sound most likely comes from bad bearings in the transmission box. The final drive is not supposed to generate any sound even it’s semi-helical. Is the sound still there? Is there any possibility you can reopen the tranny and check for the bearings?

Let me know.

Thanks
Jim"

Mine did it with all brand new OEM bearings. Went away when I put the stock FD back in except for 3rd and 5th (MFactory gears).

It definitely won't be as quiet as stock final drive, but its not supposed to be super loud. So long as the shop who put your tranny back together is competent, you will be fine.

well it gets the loudest when lets say im in 5th gear and slowing down to speeds around 40 or so.

i think its just the semi-helical teeth and is fine. but its a good thing! i wish all my gears were semi-helical then i might stop shearing the teeth off them.

btw, i put the tranny together and i think i am competent i built a hundred of them haha. i dont trust anyone working on anything on my car anyways.

anyways, thanks for the final drive. it was one of the best invesments ive made. now you need to start making some gears

That's what I'm talking about And that way, worst comes to worst, you know who to blame if something goes wrong.
