exploding reserve tank
I can't imagine the tank blowing up before the lid simply pops off.
What is the condition of fluid level in radiator? Any overheating issues? If not, just replace tank. They are about $10 at an aftermarket online store.

I would drain the system and refill making sure to get all of the air out.I also would check the fluid for any mixture of oil just to make sure it isnt a sleeve headgasket problem.

man i should have ask yall before i order the reserve tank and cap... that website is cheaper... gonna try draining it again when the new reserve tank and cap comes in... the radiator was dry when i towed my car back home friday nite... scared the beegeezer out of me when i heard that thing pop! while driving... lol... thanks...
I THINK my car has a gsr head on it... it sometimes leaks oil... so when i drive too long gotta fill it back up with oil when my baby starts-a-shaking... i'll post a picture of that tomorrow when it's daylight... gonna have to bother yall one more time for fixins'... thanks

thats not a GSR head, thats a single cam, gsr's are dohc. looks like a d16y8 inside of a crx/ef 89-91 civic. if you are losing oil and blowing up reservoirs do a leakdown test and see where the problem is.
Not only is that not a GS-R head on that engine, it's a very dirty engine.
An engine "shampoo" would make finding future leaks a lot easier and long before they become a problem. 94

lol... thats what i'm told when i bought the car... the friend was changing his spark plugs and broke one so he had to change the head... i'll ask my bf what it is... but he cover that hole with that rubber and screw so hopefully it doesnt leak oil from it... now waiting on my reserve tank and radiator cap... so i'll be taking the bus where i need to go...
i'm a goof, i just asked him... i got it wrong (selective hearing on my side)... its a 92-94 civic ex or si head... all i know is that its my daily driver and got to take good care of it...
Your engine is missing some parts, your bf has plugged the breather hole... http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...EATHER+CHAMBER
It looks like all the parts of the breather, [PCV] system are missing.

Dont plug the breather hole!!!
unless you want to keep all that pressure inside...
if its smoking from that hole then you have other issues. piston rings, melted piston, could be a few things.
but dont plug that hole unless you want it blown up even faster..
plugging that hole leaves nowhere for that pressure to go except out of other seals..
And what did your BF do to check the headgasket? does the car idle bad in the morning when first started but then clears up?

for one. that hole thats ur bf fixed should have A:A smaller breather over that pice or B: looks like you have an aftermarkert intake there from that blue silicone i see. there should be a 3/8 line that goes from there into a nossle from the intake or if its the stock box same thing.the reason for that is for the gas build up to go elsewhere instead of stay in the head and build pressure..
as for the other issue do what everyone else is saying and check you pressure across your head. go to autozone rent a tool.. take a spark plug out one at a time fire it up a couple cranks record the pressure.and do the rest for the other cylinders make sure your spark plug wire isnt near anything u can catch fire to..

he said its a d16 head sohc... BIG QUESTION- its blowing alot of oil through that same breather hole... what could it be? vtec is not hooked up... bought the car like that...
If there is a lot of oil coming out that hole I would want to check the "drains" to make sure oil is draining out from under the VC properly, I would probably start with the head gasket, make sure it is the correct one and installed properly, so it is not plugging a drain. 94
thank you guys for the info... i will tinker with that rubber thingy and learn where that drain is and my bf will work on it on wednesday... b/c he going for half a day for wednesday... and wait till my reserve tank and cap to come in... =(
