Default coolant leak (overflow cap)

My stock D16 seems to be leaking coolant around the overflow tank cap. I replaced the tank assuming that it was a problem with the tank not being able to hold pressure. the new one has the same problem. the engine temp seems to be stable until enough coolant boils and effectively leaks out of the overflow tank. after filling up the overflow tank and radiator it seems to be stable again. Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like you might have a bad head gasket

a blown head gasket would cause backpressure in the coolant system???

Not back pressure... Just extra pressure. Which is why I said

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">****... Guess I have a bad head gasket then.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Because not only is my overflow tank boiling over... But my Water Pump is leaking again. All of these things point towards a bad Head Gasket.

i think ur problem is the radiator cap!! if the spring is broken the system doesnt pressurize because the coolant heats up and just continues to leak into the overflow and starts to boil out i had the same problem for 10 dollars at discount auto its worth a try! answer me this is ur radiator fan turning on?

Yeah the fan comes on as normal and I know the system pressurizes. Flushed the system several times, water is pumping round and we have bled the system also. Its getting really frustrating so going to do the gasket and hope for the best cant think what else it could be unless i have cracked the head or block?!
