Default exhaust question

tried the prelude but no reply, anyways i was thinking of getting an exhaust for my 92 si prelude, stick with a shortram AEM intake. Ive given it a really good tune up (new oem distributor cap, rotor cap, spark plug wires, bosch platinum 4 plugs, coli wire new battery, new relays and fuses, regualr oil change about 2500 or so miles, the car has got 150k miles on it but it runs great( previous owner was a pastor) im the second owner, so its still looks brand new with the new paint job. My question is will a good muffler help at all or is it just for the sound and looks?? I don't want to spend 500 bucks on an exhaust because im saving up for the h22 swap so will the muffler help at all, because i noticed that the prelude stock piping isnt that small. I've heard that the muffler will help a little, but also heard that i could lose power and i dont want to do that. Thaks in advance and oh yeah, you guys kick ***!!
