would there be any improvement to replacing a b16 exhaust cam with a gsr one?

well, it depends on what year your B16 cams are.
If they're 92+ B16 cams, they're fairly close in spec to 94+ GSR cams.

If you own 89-91 B16A cams, then by golly, yes get both GSR cams, as 89-91 B16A cams are of weaker spec.

the motor is 2nd gen b16.
I was hoping to get type r intake cam, then swap in a gsr exhaust cam cause it'd be cheaper than another type r cam.

true..
but its best to run both 'R' cams; people say the 'R' exhaust cam is exactly like a stock B16 or GSR exhaust cam....total BS. The primary and secondary lobes are close to stock b16/b18c spec, but the MID or VTEC lobe is where it differs ...

That depends on which year GSR cams you speak of...
B17A/GSR (92-93) or B18C/GSR (94-00)

the B17/GSR cams are slightly better than the 89-91 B16 cams.

89-91 B16 cams AT or MT, are pretty gay specs in general. You're best of with a set of 92+ B-series cams.

ok thanks for clearing that up. maybe this post will help someone out as well....this is the results of my cam swap from b16 to gsr:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=449629

however, i swapped both intake and exhaust, so i guess we wont know how much the exhaust helps. the only reason i did this swap was becuase the JRSC is supposed to love the GSR cams. if you're staying NA, do NOT put in GSR cams, it would be a waste of time and money, as you can see in the link.

Yeah to hell with that then, the search for a decent priced set of TR cams is about to commence.

Thanks for the input fellas.
