Excedy clutch installed, now have problems
here's the scenerio. tonite i installed an excedy racing clutch and fidanza flywheel in a 99 Si. when i try to put it in 1st gear, it's like i have to force it in there, so i adust the pedal to see if the throw out bearing working correctly, and it is, so i set the pedal back where it should be.
has anyone had any problems with getting the shifter in the gears after a clutch install?
any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Jeremy

your going to have to get used to it a new clutch especially a perfromance one will be harder to shift because its catching. thats pretty much normal

I'm not sure I agree with that 100%. I NEVER had any problems with harder shifting after putting in a performance clutch. Check the clutch fluid and try bleeding the clutch lines.

what do you mean by stepping?
what do you mean by stepping?
You need to grind the flywheel so that the base and the friction surface are a certant distance apart from each other..
Its call the flywheel stepping.. I know on my Exedy clutch it was .063 negative..

The height of the mating surface above the mounting hole surface, like this:

Wouldn't Fidanza make the stepping the same as the stock flywheel for compatability? My friend has a Fidanza flywheel, and while it engages differently, it worky fine.
Damnit, again!

Its an Exedy 3 puck race clutch.. I had to get the stock flywheel ground to the specs that Exedy said they had to be for that clutch..
I can maybe see it for a clutch like that, but even then, could they not have designed it for the stock flywheel dimensions? I think that for someone buying a mild exedy clutch as a little upgrade for a worn stock clutch, the suprise of having to machine the flywheel is kinda poor planning by exedy. My Clutchmasters stage 3 bolted on fine. Engages a little low, but I like it like that for faster double clutching.
Every clutch has a stepping that it needs.. And you should always get your flywheel ground for a new clutch.. And getting the flywheel ground and stepped is like $30 at a machine shop..
had the same problem with my exedy(modified by another company and renamed
