Default with every problem comes an oppurtunity

alrite so earlier in the day I pretty much blew my d16y8 vtec motor. as I'm sitting around being upset lol no homo my dads friend comes over. turns out he totaled his 98 CRV with 40k miles on it a few months back and is willing to GIVE me the motor/tranny/ecu/etc for free. so here's my question...

I'm obvioulsy gonna hop on this for sure but what direction do I take from here? I want a car I can drive everyday to and from work/school and take it on occasional "spirited drives" . the car currently has an auto tranny in it from the d16y8 so what can I do? don't most take the b20 and put an ls head on it (add that golden eagle ls vtec kit as well)? correct me if I'm wrong. but for a budget build for someone who isn't looking for a shitload of power but an enjoyable daily driven car (possibly turbod in the future but as of now I wanna use stock internals but I may consider different cam gears/cam shafts) and isn't looking for much down time what ideas do you guys suggest? any input is appreciated

p.s-what tranny (cable or hydro also what's the differences?)/ecu do I use with any combination I go with and how hard is it to swap the b20 into the 96 civic coupe provided I get the correct mounts/linkage/axles/etc? I'm new to b20 builds so please share any info
