b series or d16y8/d15b head
im trying to swap out for something better in my ek hatch d16y7
the local pick and pull gets trolled by some tards that keep taking random parts off the engines leaving them incomplete and jsut open for rain.
i watched these guys take the cam and cam caps off the d16y8 that i was gonna grab tomorrow pretty much leaving it a junk motor now unuseable,
but i found a 91 jdm d15b motor vtec in a 91 civic
i was wondering if this will work
d16y8 block
d15b vtec head
d16y8 complete intake manifold
d16y8 ecu (will the stock y8 ecu be ok to run with that frankenstein motor?)
or other option would be to grab an LS motor and tranny out of a 95 integra
unless i can get lucky with a crv or 96-01 integra motor those are the only 2 options i have
both are equally appealing
single cam vtec a bit more power bt still good fuel economy
b20/b18 good power but not very much economy
i dont want to convert to obd1 ecu is there a stock ecu that would run that d series frank?

B18 or B20. D series all motor is not worth the work or $$$. If you REALLY want to do the D series however just get a Y8 head and intake manifold and bolt it on to your block since the Y7 and Y8 share the same block (different pistons). Then just run the P2P ECU (Y8) and wire up VTEC, knock sensor and 3-2 wire IACV conversion. It won't be as worth it with your Y7 transmission.

im getting close to 40 mpg with this single cam and it still gets me around.
with b series theres much more power but gas mileage is not the same.
and its more tempting to step on it.
the only reason i want vtec head is so its easier to accelerate when merging in traffic
i just want to know if anyone done it before and how the stock y8 ecu handle this combination and if it pass emissions or not
since the jdm d15b has lower vtec engagement and different cam profile and im assuming different ports also

It'll run it just fine. Just make sure to get the cam timing right (I believe you'll have to use the Y7/Y8 cam gear) as the D15B resembles the D16Z6 more than the Y8 and uses a different distributor so you'll have to either use an adapter or rewire it. All ports are the same so intake and exhaust manifolds swap over perfectly. Make sure if you are using the Y8 ECU you'll want to grab the knock sensor off the back of the Y8 block as the ECU will look for that and VTEC. So all in all you'll need to wire up VTEC, knock and convert the IACV from 3 to 2 wire. Grab the Y8 intake manifold and injectors as well.
