Ever Seen a Built Motor That Did NOT Smoke?
Just like the title asks.
The reason I ask is because I personally have never seen a motor that has been "built" that didn't smoke.
I see posts all the time where people ask "buy swap X or build this motor, etc." and it makes me wonder if there are guys out there with built motors that don't smoke.

As long as the person doesn't use a test pipe. Yes.
I have seen 3 built motors. 2 of which used test pipes....smoked.
the one that actually used a cat didn't.

My y8 build, tht I built, does not smoke whatsoever, no cat, squeaky clean visually. My y7 build, however, did smoke a bit on full throttle; I suspect that had to do with the circus troupe that built it in Staten Island...

my build smokes on rapid throttle snapping.
if you snap the throttle 3 or 4 times in a row really fast from idle up to about 5000rpm there is some blue smoke.........i'm pointing the finger at the poor PCV system............cant wait for my damn oil catch can......

a major o consider is piston matrial selection...it is a fine science when running low silicon forged pistons to get the motor to have the proper piston-to-wall clearances; Consult the piston manufacturers and reputable shops...
LOL!...hehehehe..You must be from southern california.I have a two CNC motorsports not to far from me.I never knew they did head porting....or tried to for the matter.
None of the motors I build smoke.

I got about 45 miles on my newly built motor and now there is no smoking at all. I have a test pipe too.
running castrol gtx 10W30 and used wd40 to seat the piston rings as Earl suggested, rings seated in about 15 minutes that way!

my built motor initially didnt smoke. that might have had something to do with the stock P72 ECU. now that i have a SKUNK2 ECU, it smokes. looks kinda black, but rings seal is great and compression is great. no cat for me and possibly the 9k shift points dont help either. i used castrol 30W for my 20 min break in then rodded the **** outta it after that. i have less than 1k on it still. will switch to castrol 5/30 next time.
