Default Evap problem help

Hi everybody,

Today my 09 Civic had the engine light on and the codes are P1446 and P0455.

I found out that they are:

P1446
Evaporative Vac Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

P0455
Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)

Could anyone tell me can I fix the car by myself or definitely have to bring her to the service. How long can I drive like that?
If i can I fix it - where can I locate this solenoid??

Thanks

if you get yourself a repair manual and a volt meter you should be able to do the solenoid yourself. I believe the evap solenoid is the purge solenoid and should be but not sure, in the engine bay. The manual should help at diagnosing it.

the leak you'll have to take to a shop, from what I can remember from class the system can pick up like a .040" leak or something like that.

The solenoid in question is part of the pressure check. You have two of them that seal off the gas tank. A map sensor measures the pressure that a small air pump pump's up the pressure inside.

It should be covered by warranty, or there might be a recall on it too. Call your dealership.

One other reason you would get the PO455 is if you left the gas cap loose.
