Default engine block/head/transmission degreasing tips ?

i just took out my piston rings, and rod bearings, and ordered some new main, rod bearings, piston rings today at this shop. just waiting for them to get in on thursday and sunday im going to be rebuilding the bottom end. When I take the crank, pistons, and everything out what do you recommend i should do with a bare block, i was thinking about hot tanking it, but one of the shops i go to, to get my parts say "it's not good to hot tank blocks, or your not suppose to." what do you recommend about cleaning the bottom end ? i was thinking about pressure washing the **** out of it with degreaser. anybody give me any tips ?

[ sorry if i posted this in the wrong thread. x_x i was thinking either tech section or detail section. ]
