Default ECU reset problems...

How long should you unplug your battery to reset your ECU? And after reset, is it necessary to let your car warm up completely before driving it?

The reason I ask is, I did a valve adjustment, f*cked up a gasket, fixed that problem, and then tried to drive the car cold before letting it warm up. It just kept trying to stall everytime you'd take your foot off the pedal, and after a minute of driving it would just stall if you took your foot off the gas, period.

I parked it, unplugged the battery, waited 5 minutes, plugged it back in, let it idle for 5 minutes (until it smoothed out and stopped wandering) and the problem went away... does this sound like an ECU problem or a cold-idle problem?

You're supposed to reset when fully warmed huh? Shoot, I never knew that! Thanks man!

But wait... wouldn't that cause some funny problems when you're just finishing a valve adjustment on an ice-cold engine? You can't exactly start it up fully warm... and the ECU should have been reset.
