Default Dumb TPS Question

Hey Guys,

I know I need to use a multimeter and that I want to isolate the middle wire and check the voltage, but I don't know how. Obviously when the connector is plugged into the harness (on the sensor) you cannot get a wire in there so u can't get a reading that way.

I don't have a clue on how to get a reading. People say "probe" the wire, but you cannot take your multimeter and get a reading through the wires' insulation.

I have to be over looking something really dumb. Anyone give me a little help.

so the + end of the probe will be on the middle wire and the other end - will be on the ground off the TPS?

P.S. This is for an STR throttle body, I'm trying to calibrate the sensors position - I already the the volt ranges at WOT and Idle.

I just stripped back some of the insulation.

A shortcut I use is to use a sharp probe lead that'll poke right through the wire's insulation. Quick and easy and no real damage.

Or you can backprobe the connector pin itself.

I do if from the back of the ECU harness.

I can't remember the pin numbers right now, but it's in the manual on the wiring schematics. red/blk and I tink ylw/grn

Thats how I do it. I actually spliced a wire lead into the TPS wire and use that to connect to the multimeter.

Its d11(+) and d22(-). Wire colors vary between models.

if you take off the throttle body with the tps attached and have a multimeter that reads resistance, you can just put a both probes on both pins and it'll give you a reading.

What should the readings be though?

i just take a multi meter that has sharp test probes and just kinda "stab" the wire's shield and get my reading that way. very simple to do
