Default Dry engine

Friend of mine blew the engine (possibly) on a 1997 Honda Odyssey. I had to put 4 quarts of oil in the engine so it was running bone dry. Afterwards, it drives ok, no knocking but there is smoke everywhere. If we can stop the smoking it may be salvaged. Any ideas short of a new engine?

Please explain how you plan to salvage this engine that was run with no oil for an extended period of time?

Do compression and leakdown tests.

new engine or complete rebuild. If you want to rebuild it might be worth it to get a new core.

I had a guy look at it who does pretty well with lost causes. He thinks that he may be able to do something with it that will not be cost prohibitive. I'll explain it if it works but in the mean time I thought I would solicit some other opinions.

Number two cylinder wasn't getting compression. Thought that there was a chance that the rings might seal back up by spraying WD-40 into the combustion chamber. Shot in the dark.

WD-40, seriously? I'm hoping that was a friend of a friend instead of a professional mechanic.

Yeah I thought it sounded funny too but it worked for him before. Anyway, new engine is the route I am going. Found a pretty cheery one for $750 delivered with about 58,000 miles on it.

Nice attitude; hopefully you'll never need to ask a idiotic question.
