Drill holes in window?
So recently my GSR's back glass shatter into a billion pieces. I have a carbon hatch, and glass is expesive. $1400 from safelite. $700 plus shipping from auto parts websites. So I started looking at FAL's Lexan lightweight windows. They are made of 1/8 polycarbonate. My question is it possible to drill through this material? Is it sort of like pexy glass as opposed to real glass? I thought I saw that it was possible to rivet these windows, but cannot be for sure cause I can't relocate info. I need this for mounting the 3rd brake lamp. I guess I could glue it on, but I'd rather bolt it in.
i wouldnt rivet it. rivets could crack the lexan very easy. window weld or screws will work and you can drill it. i also wouldnt mount the third brake light to a fal window. if your carbon hatch has the factory plastic trim inside you can mount the brake light to the bottom trim. also getting a rusted up or damaged hatch for the glass is an option.
Lexan can be drilled and routered, cut with a hacksaw blade, skill saw or Plexiglass knife,
I also would not rivet it unless preset depth rivets are used.
Lexan is much harder then plexiglass so much more brittle, it is also why it does not scratch as easily as plexiglass does. 94

Okay thanks. It does not. I have a 3rd brake lamp that mounts to the window directly, and carbon hatch cannot even accept that rear cowl behind the deck. I just wanted to get something other than glass and still have 3rd brake lamp.
