<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by sgT &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">yes</TD></TR></TABLE> you took the easy answer . Yes when the cam is outta the head there is nothing to keep the valves open anymore. the cam controls the duration and lift of the valves. It other words the cam lobes are designed to open the valves and keep them open for a certain amount of time. This is why you can buy after market cams that will open faster stay open longer and close quicker. The allow more fuel and air into the combustion chamber. With more air and fuel to burn it creates more power. So when the cam is out of the head the valves stay closed because the lobes of the cam are not there to keep them open. Probably a little more than you needed but It's the only way to learn
