Icon7 Does this sound right?

I've got a d16z6 that I just swapped into my coupe, all I did is replace the d16z6 that was already in there. Anyways, does this idle sound right? I've got a bud who thinks it might be misfiring or that somethings wrong internally. What do you guys think?

All it has done to it that could affect engine performance is an intake, high flow cat, and cat back exhaust (apexi ws1).

Sounds like a misfire. It could be timing, dead injector, plugs, wires, compression, bent valves.

Start by identifying what cylinder is misfiring by startibg.

Open hood
With engine on remove 1 spark plug wire at a time. When doing this you should notice your engine stumble. If you dont notice a change on a certain cylibder. THATS the cylinder that is misfiring.

Do some basic maintenance. most importantly: valve lash adjustment. then replace the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. problem solved

Dont buy plugs, wires, cap, rotor. If you do and it turns out to be a bent valve, worn rings, injector then you justvwasted 200 dollars taking a wild guess at the problem.

Idk about other people but i like to pin point abd diagnose issues before buying parts :-)

Yea thanks guys for all the input! I'll determine which cylinder is misfiring later tonight or tomorrow, hopefully it's not a bent valve because I just bought this motor a week ago! In the mean time, is it OK to drive while I've got a misfire?

OK I did the test and isolated the misfire to cylinder 4. I checked the spark plugs and switched them out so that's not the problem. The injectors are fine I did the screwdriver test and they are all functioning. My next guess is timing on the distributor. Does that seem like a possibility?

no. that would affect all 4 cyls evenly.

do a valve lash adjustment like I said above

So injectors,plugs are good.

Now do a compression test. If ypu dont have the tool you can rent it at autoparts stores.
Also check #4 sparkplug wire for corrosion.

Alright I'll be doing valve lash adjustment this Tuesday, and I ran a compression test earlier today. The problem cylinders are 2 & 4.

Here is cylinder 2:

And cylinder 4:

your gauge is missing the shrader valve. the gauge should not jump up and then back down, it should jump up and stay up, staying at the highest pressure it reads throughout the test. that's an issue with the gauge, not your car.

X2... Looks like the gauge is setup for a rotary. lol. Put the schrader valve back in.

I knew something was up with the tester that's why I took a video lol. What does the schrader valve look like? I've been using O'Reillys tester kit and the only other thing in the box is another end to screw into the spark plug hole.

^lol^

Schrader valve is a needle valve, looks kinda like the needle valve in a tire stem.

I didn't get around to the compression test, but I did replace the top piece of the stock exhaust manifold which turned out to be cracked! Idle got a little bit better , but it's back again. I know I need to do a compression test again, but now I'm thinking that maybe my car is running rich. I looked up other videos of civics running rich on YouTube and they all sound similar to mine

Look @ 0:53
