Default does the knock sensor give out voltage at idle?

My ecu keeps throwing a code for the knock sensor.

i have already swapped in a brand new acura one. and i still get a code.

i measured the voltage of the wire today. and i did not get any voltage that i could measure with my volt-meter.

any ideas?

i can run a new wire, i just want to make sure it will actually fix the problem

hi Bob,

AFAIK,

the KS is a piezo electric device that detects the 'ping' or knock.

it sends a impulse to the ECU when it 'hears' a ping or 'knock'

ie it is a electro/mechanical type sensor. it has no voltage.

the wire needs to be 'shielded' ie with a sheath around it to protect from interference from other sound sources in the engine bay.

i hope this helps some...

t..

you're not the only one that has to deal with a knock sensor throwing a code. I just overcome it by drowning the gas tank with octane booster. No more codes til the octane point level drops back down .

i wonder if my jdm itr pistons and itr cams with gsr head (11.4cr) is causing knock on cali 91 octane.

it doesnt seem like it knocks (i have never heard it on my car)

i filled up some 100 octane @ the 76 station. same problems though
