Yeah, I know this is Hondatech, so maybe I deserve some flames. My daughter's boyfriend has a '96 Escort that's - - kinda pathetic. He doesn't even have an owner's manual, so that's why I'm asking...

Automatic transmission:
Do you check oil with it warmed up & running, or what?
Does it use Dexron or something strange?

Is the power steering fluid normal? Or does it want ATF or something wierd?

we have the ford escorts over here in the UK its the ricers equivelent of the honda civic. Let me know if you need some numbers of uk ford garages (www.yell.co.uk). I didnt think they did the escort over there but i may be wrong. is it an import?
If you have no luck try a UK ford forum theres loads of guys that know about them over here just unfortunately not me.

It's not like the turbo models you guys have in the UK... The ford escorts are pathetic here...

there not all that over here, our UK spec 1.6 N/A CRX MKII will beat a ford RS 1.8 turbo off the marks, they do sound nice thou!

Now the RS focus.... Mmmmm what a lovely bit of machinery.

 

most automatics at are the same you do check it warmed and running. as far as the dextron it is possible that is uses the dextron 3 but i would check at least with auto zone before you uses it. they can tell you what it uses. and power steering usely says on the cap or the bottle what it uses. it is prolly dot 3 what you use. i had a escort a while back and i know it didn't use anything special.

 

I've had two escorts in the past and used type F transmission fluid and normal ps fluid for ps. But then again I didn't give too big of a sh*t about them anyways. They did last a good long time though!

 

Thanks for the help everybody. I tried to scrape thru the grime on the PS reservoir & could only find a Ford spec.#. Well, the engine oil was pretty black, so that's the first project...

 

Reminded me of the Ford Escort RS Cosworth..
That thing is lighting fast..my neighbour got one..Cant keep up with my old light moded Evo V.. (Thats in Hong Kong)

But yeah, the US escort is crap..
