Distributor shocked the hell out of me
Question: I am pretty sure you shouldn't be able to electrocute yourself on the distributor (casually that is), right?
Well we've been working like crazy on the CRX (LS/VTEC), trying to get it running properly, have had nothing but problems.
Well recently when I've gone to adjust the ignition timing, a few times I've gotten a nasty shock. Today I got a horrible shock way worse then the other times, made me see stars. So I'm pretty sure something is fucked with it.
Anyone know what could be wrong with the distributor that would cause this symptom? I took my LS distributor, repinned it and installed it tonight, replacing the old one, still having problems but haven't shocked myself again yet.
Not for sure if that fixed the problem or I'm still at risk for electrocution. Anyone have any information?

The distributor cap is probably leaking spark. If you pour some water on it, the engine might stall to verify it.

I've heard of using a long'ish screwdriver and a mist bottle of water??
Sit the screwdriver over the wires (obviously you're holding the insulated handle) and lightly mist that area, then slide the screwdriver to a new section and repeat....if you see spark scatter, your wire insulation has been corrupted.

You can't disconnect the negative battery terminal when you go to adjust the ignition timing--the car is actually running when you do this.
