is it the distributor? please help.
My recently installed B16A has started making this terrible noise. At first I thought it was the valves, so I adjusted them (twice - the helms way) and no improvement. I wouldn't call it a tick, it is more like a click that is very fast, almost like a whirring or buzzing sound that starts at 3000 rpms. It is pretty loud.
Checked the LMA's, they seem good.
Thought it was a bent valve, checked the compression. 210 exactly on all four.
The valve train looks great as far as I can tell.
Timing belt is tight.
It doesn't idle smooth, and there is oil leaking from behind the distributor.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the info; it looks to be leaking there so I bought a new o-ring and will check it out when I change it.
I took it to a local garage owned by a former honda technician that also builds engines and does swaps on the side. He listened to it with the hood up and went for a ride with me. He said I shouldn't worry so much; it is just a different engine with a different sound and is completely normal. His instructions were to drive the @$#! out of it, so thats what I'm doing.

Yeah since you mention it maybe he just wants me to screw something up in an effort to get some business. Seems like the distributor is the right place to start. I am still curious if the injectors could make that noise.....

I should mention that it is possible the engine did this as soon as I installed it but I didn't hear it. When we test drove it we had the windows down, and you can't hear the noise unless they are up. It was later that week when it got cold out that I drove it for the first time with them up.
Also the idle has really cleared up. I know I'm reaching here but thanks for the help if you have it.

I had a problem similar to this. I started my car up one day and i heard this ungodly loud squeeling sound...narrowed it down to the bearing in the dizzy (dist.)
it wasnt the actual bearing it was the shell that protected the bearing and it was just gradually falling and breaking apart. Replaced my Dizzy and problem solved.
Suggestions: Dont take your car back to that guy.
Try to narrow the noise down.
If it turns out its the dizzy hit up your local autozone if you got the money and pick a new one up.
