Default Distributor Help Timing and Idle

This may be a noob question but ive been beating my head against a wall

*i have reset the idle stop screw (which was messed with) to .5v at idle same as TPS
*adjusted the idle screw with the iacv unplugged with the car warmed up to set the idle to the proper rpm
*i have cleaned the iacv
*i have checked the sensors
* i have checked the distributor
*checked the plugs/ checked the wires

i jump the scs (i believe is what its called) the blue plug under the kick panel on passenger side

i go to check the timing and i have to advance the distributor almost to its limit to get the timing mark to line up.. im wondering if this could be a sign of a problem else where?
shouldn't the distributor almost sit center (the upper bolt fairly close to the center of its limiting piece?
is there any issue with having the distributor that far off but the timing is spot on?
*****please see last posts**************
thanks-

**update**
went ahead and changed the timing mechanical
went and changed the cap and rotor and plugs
also went ahead and replaced the iacv

the dizzy still sits kind of far advanced// do you guys think it could be a faulty dizzy and is there any way to check it without buying a new one???

The distributor should sit right in the middle. If you have to advance the distributor to line up your BTDC 16* mark then your mechanical timing is off.

He's saying your motor isn't timed properly (timing belt)... in short, you gotta spin the crank pulley until 2 arrows/dots are pointed at one another. At that time, the two dots on your cam gears should be together... If not, "Houston we have a problem!"

Take off your valve cover and take out your spark plugs so the motor will spin freely. If you look down at an angle to the crank pulley from the front driver side. You should see a an etching on the lower timing belt cover.
Spin the crank motor over until you see 3 red marks and 1 white mark. Should look something like this 111 1. The white mark is single which is classified as TDC. Line that up with the marking on the lower timing belt cover. If your timing is at TDC then both your cam gears should be lined up.
The up arrows are just a reference, they do not determine TDC. There are white marks on the intake cam gear and exhaust cam gear that are horizontal and should look like this - - if they are at TDC. "left mark is referring the exhaust cam gear" and "right mark is referring to the intake cam gear"

ok thanks so you guys think the timing belt may be off then.. i had changed the timing belt about 3000 miles ago and i think it was set correctly but ill double check everything...

how hard is it to jump a tooth on the belt or is that fairly rare?

If the car jumped a tooth you would know a difference. You're timing is probably just slightly off. I can almost guarantee that it is your mechanical timing.

ok so went through and you were right on the timing was off mechanically. set it right on the money and everything seemed to be fine after i set my idle..

except > when i turn the car on and it fines its idle its sits nice around 6-700 w.e but then as the car warms the idle slowly increases to 1000-1100 and sits . no jumps or hick ups just slowly rises

*you guys think its the fitv would cause?

Check for vac leaks and make sure your ignition timing is exactly at 16*BTDC. Clean the IACV.

Alot of swapped motors never idle properly. I just tend to think if it's not fluctuating and not over 1000rpm then its fine. Another thing, get a wideband and see what your AFR is during Idle.

checked for vac leaks today seems ok. sprayed around with starter fluid and didnt see any flux
need to check the AFR that may tell me a little more

>as far as timing in the video the dizzy sits in the middle but with the engine running where it is the mark is not the red (16 *btc) i cant time it properly cuz the idle is so high

thanks again for the help
