Default Disk brakes imperative??

Im buying a 88 crx si and it has no rear disk brakes. I was given a great link on how to do the conversion from drums to disk but its alot harder than I thought it would be and requires more effort than I thought. Im am going to be swapping in a motor ( see sig) and wanted to know if you guys think that the rear drums are going to be good enough for stopping power. Are disc brakes absoloutley imperative in a crx with swap?? Are the drums good enough or do I have to do the brake conversion?

Drums are fine, unless you road race every weekend.

Well your front brakes make up about 70% of your stopping power. So you really don't need them unless you plan on doing some sort of road racing. But disk brakes are much better all around. But its not required.

Drums should be fine if you are not racing

Rear drums will actually have a larger braking surface then discs

Discs shed heat better though so they are more resistant to fade.

So in a racing situation where you are flogging the brakes constantly you want discs. On a road car drums suffice.

Ill be doing some racing, no road racing but Ill be drag racing occasionally. Im trying to get the CRX to run like high 13's all motor, maybe low 13's in the 1/4 with nitrous. Im in CT and the nearest 1/4 drag strip is Englishtown NJ so i wont be racing like every weekend, maybe like couple times every couple months. So you think Im good with the drums for this type of setup and racing? Thanks for everyone also for their previous replies I appreciate it as always

Lol, for one stop every 8 minutes, you'll be fine with drums.
