Dirt In Motor????
My brother's GSR was stolen day after Christmas and was found 1/4/03... he went to the tow yard where the car is to take a look at it and the motor was still in tact.... the only problem here is that the dumbasses who took the car stole the spark plug wires & threw a ton of dirt into the holes where the plugs go... now the main question is.... with a little TLC.... by opening up the head and just cleaning it out--lubing and what not.... will the motor still be in good shape????

If they didn't remove the spark plugs, just clean out the spark plug tubes. No need to pull the head. If they did pull the plugs, the oil in the cylinders will cause dirt particles to stick. Besides, fine granuals may have made it between the pistons and the cylinder walls. In that case, a complete tear down and washing of everything is warranted. Insurance should cover the cost, IMO.

Well, I'm pretty sure the insurance will cover it, but what if the car isn't driveable anymore??... I haven't seen the car personally so.. I can't make a judgement call on whether or not the car is still salvageable.... but hopefully those jerks didn't take out the spark plugs... so that'll just make it easier to clean, but like I was telling my brother... tearing down the whole motor won't hurt....it'll be a learning experience... but if the insurance will cover it all that'll be cool too... but I'm pretty sure the car is a total loss--and if we have the option to keep the car and the only difference in $$ payback is no more than $1000... I'd rather just keep the car and take out the motor, since the motor is worth well over that amount...
