Default Defective head?

What are some signs to look for in a defective head? I bought a b16 head from a ht member (jdmtuner4life) And i wasnt impressed with all in the quality. Head was pretty much bare. I paid for complete head, got head, cams, valves, springs and retainers and a few plates to seal the cams down. Alot is missing, but im probably just going to roll with it since there is nothing i can do now. But im going to be using this head on a crvtec plus turbo, and i dont want to use something thats all fucked up, what can i check to see if its defective.

there are a number of things you can do to see if the head needs serviceing or is defective. Your service manual will tell you for the most part the measurements you need to take in order to see if it needs servicing. Talk to your local machine shop. I could list a number of things but i am sure you don;t have the tools to do so since you are asking.

Well.. I am asking, My dad has a construction company and has a shitload of tools,so let me know. I just dont want to go through the whole crvtec setup and have this not work. I mean there is not alot even on the head that could no work, its fairly bare, but it has valves, rockers, etc.

construction tools are not what you are looking for. These are precision engine tools and you are much better going to your local machine shop and telling them to look it over.

The cam caps are not available separately. They are machined after they are installed on the head.If you do find some they will need to be machined to the head (align honed).

i doubt he has the tools to do so anways. Take a look in your service manual and you will see what is needed to inspect the head. If you want to be more precise take it to and engine shop like i said and they can use dye penatrant on it and make a number of measurements accurately to see if it needs any work.

you can have them do a leakdown test on the head, should be around 40 bucks and they should clean it as well.,

at an automotive machine shop?
go to your local mechanics and ask them where they get head servicing done.

<-i work at one and i know we are affiliated with serveral dealers, and a couple of chain general mechanic car repair places.
