Default CVT tranny

Anyone here have any experience with the 6th gen Civic HX with the CVT tranny? Specifically, can I swap a DX or EX tranny in instead of the HX tranny.

I bought a 97 Civic with a blown auto CVT tranny that needs to be replaced, and I don't want to spend all the money on a rebuilt CVT tranny, as they are usually over $1000.

I would prefer to use the DX/EX tranny for price, or use a JDM cvt tranny. Anyone know if either would work, and what other modifications would need to be done (i.e. ECU)?

in the testing done CVT was faster then stick and much faster then auto in the audi s4 during testing....with CVT when you punch the gas the engine is held at redline and the tranny does the rest...so your always in the peak of your band...
constantly variable transmission....owns

thanks, but i am really trying to stay away from the cvt if at all possible due to the cost of replacement...just do a search for civic cvt trannys on ebay and you will see why i prefer to go with a dx/ex.

The car is not for speed...just a good old beater to put miles on.

If you were trying to sell something on ebay, what would you say?

I am just trying to do some research so I don't get screwed over. If you don't have anything useful to add, then please don't bother posting.
