Default custom tow hook

i have an integra and planning to install a splitter on the car. it will utilize my OEM tow hook so i will need an alternative tow hook point.

i was wondering if it would be possible to weld/bolt one of these to the front bumper reinforcement frame. http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ver-67158.html

then attach one of these to the 2"x2" hitch.
http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...tch-66212.html

I figure this will be stronger than a tow strap.

Why the hell would you need a 5000lb rated hook to pull on a 2500lb car?

Your idea is quite excessive.

bc this is the cheapest solution I can find that does not use an aluminum hook that is permanently bolted to the front bumper subframe and sticks out in front of the bumper. Also tow strap can go bad over time since it is made of a flexible heavy duty fabric material. Great for track, but I would like some stronger like a solid metal piece. Rennline makes a kit but it costs over 100 if u get receiver plate with screw on plus the toe hook itself.

I know 5000lb is over doing it but it is pretty cheap regardless.

Anyone care to give their input?

As far as something for the track, the tow strap is best. Its light, cheap, easy to install, and doesn't protrude from the bumper if another car or your shin gets in the way.

I do agree that the aluminum tow hooks are a joke though.

A quick titles only search of the rr/ax forum should give you some ideas:https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...light=tow+hook

as far as a daily commuter... you think the HF tow hook will work?? having a tow strap installed and tucked inside the bumper only to be used 7 years later doesn't sound safe to me. fabric deteriorate over time.

Maybe just replace fabric strap every 5 years?

UV exposure is usually what deteriorates fabric. I'd consider tucking it in a bag with a desiccant inside the bumper when not needed, to minimize UV and moisture exposure between uses, and just replacing it at a set interval (whatever you feel safe with).

OVERKILL. That setup probably weighs around 40lbs. Is the splitter installed?

Really all you need is to extend the stock tow hooks. Im planning on welding extensions on my stock tow hooks soon. I,m using more stock tow hooks as my extensions.

i thought about extending the stock tow hook but the car is already too low to begin with. I think a tow point from the front bumper beam is a better choice because some tow places would just tow you from the control arms anyways.

i believe the HF set up is about 12lbs?

i honestly don't know what i m going to do, might just get the tow strap and call it a day.....

the splitter is coming along. just finished welding the splitter mount to my tow hooks.

So you're okay with cutting a hole in the bumper to have something sticking out for towing correct? Something like this could work. Drill a hole through the bumper support and bolt it down and cut your hole in the bumper for it.

that would be ideal. instead of cutting a hole through the bumper, i was planning on having the receiving end whether it's a threaded nut, or 2x2" square trailer hitch tube welded to a plate that will be bolted onto the bottom of the front bumper beam. that way, i can either insert a D-ring hitch, or one of the hooks in the picture above and have it stick out from the grill. no punch holes on the bumper needed.

do they make screw-type tow hooks in something stronger than aluminum? some tow companies would not tow from an aluminum hook due to liability reasons.

Lol, I thought this was for a track setup, but why does your car get towed so much?

As far as that eye goes, you could get a piece of square tube or c channel and weld it end-wise to the bottom of your bumper support and then thread that eye into through the grill.
