CRV drivetrain?
i gave this alot of thought back when the crv first came out. i think it would work very well for drag racing because the rear wheels are only transferred power when the front wheels slip. i'm not sure exactly how the system works, but my guess is that the ecu triggers the awd activation. this might get tricky with a vtec equipped vehicle. the next concern would be whether the transfer case and rear differential can handle the power.... and of course... how to fit all that crap under your car.
Thanks for the replies.
Drag racing does not apply here. Strictly a daily driver/part time offroader.
I thought it was a purely mechanical awd system? Anyone know which type for sure?
This is what Im really interested in learning about. HOw much power can the drivetrain handle w/o modification? And Im not thinking of trying to put the drivetrain into another Honda. CRV all the way

I remember reading somewhere that the CRV drivetrain can't take much more then stock power. It would still be cool to have a CRV with a VTEC head, and a nice turbo setup!!!
ooooooooh. i thought we were talking about incorporating the awd system into a civic/integra. regarding the awd system... the rear wheels are only transferred power when the front wheels slip. for that reason i would assume it works similar to a traction control system (with a sensor on each front wheel to detect slippage.) the driveline... well.. i guess you're the guinea pig. let us know what breaks first.

I;ve always thought that the CRV drivertrain is a good princple for a Civic or Integra. But there is one little known fact that I found out when I was researching this, that the split is 90/10 in heavy favor of theh front, the CRV AWD is not designed from a performance standpoint, it's so those old grannys driving their grandkids to the local chuckey cheese playground don't get scared when they drive through a puddle of mud when making a right on red, get scared and drive the poor little grandkids off the side of a cliff cause they got scared and didn't know what to do.
But anyways, if someone would take the time out to develop stronger axles and a drivershaft and a better split for the system and the abilty to have it activate in first and second gears only at about a 60/40 split, I would think that it would work real well.

Although I dont think you should be stereotyping CRV owners in such a way, thanks for the info.
Do you know where I can learn more about the drivetrain? Where did you find your info?

Well no expert here, but what does a CRV weigh against the Civic? THat should allow a greater margin of what power it can take. Assuming someone has the fabrication skills to make it fit and work.
