crower 404 cam install q's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, i just ordred my crower 404's for my 94 integra rs, just wondering what all i have to do for the install, i will be ordering the crower ti retainers, and dual springs also, and my s-afc soon too, but i dont know if i really need to get a p&p on my head and/or IM, or what, just need a little assistance, thanks, later
What exactly is the point of adding a cam, that moves more air, if the head cant flow more air? I would usually say do it, but you'd see way more power if you use the money to buy NOS. You are about to be disappointed unless you go with high compression.
up, anyone else have an input???
my plans so far are;
crower 404's(got em today)
titanium retainers, and dual valve springs from crower
apexi s-afc
skunk2 cam gears
possibly P&P job on head
and it said that you are supposed to replace the lifters with the crower cams, is that true??? some one help, thanks

you do not need to replace the lifters with crower cams. maybe with the 405 race only cams you will need some lifter/valve guide modifications but not with the 404's.
while you have the head off getting the valve springs and ti-retainers installed you might as well have the head ported.....it will deffinatly help in performance........
also replace your valve seals while your there too.......there really cheap to replace anyway.......

But if your not taking the head off to do it, then save yourself the time and money and leave it for now. I have seen people make noticeable gains with Skunk IM's and Crowers though. I think if you're not taking the head off, then wait and do the P+P and IM at the same time.
you'd most likely benefit more from TypeR pistons than a P&P
....
honestly with what you have going in now you'll have quite a bit of power. when you start outdriving it you can upgrade again...

OK those 404 cams you just got are going to suck for that turbo kit your going to get...thats what you said...but anyways have fun with those cams all the power to ya..those cams are going to Chop like hell and you might have to raise your idle up to about 1100rpms and if i was you i would put B16a pistons in and get a P&P head and .5mm over size valves..and if they said you have to get new rocker arms its because the cams are so big that they hit the adjustment screw for the valve clearence..they might..and get some cam gears your going to need it...And get the head deck too..
your suppose to replace the rocker follower(rocker arm) because with the stock cam, it created a wear pattern(groove) onto the rocker follower surface where the cam lobe rides on. if you run your finger-nail over the suface of the rocker, you will feel that bump where the wear pattern stops. thats why with the new cam you should buy new rockers because the cam lobe will ride over the bump and may cause accelerated wear to the cam lobe. the rocker followers are not cheap either, there like $27 each at the dealer!
i wonder if i could get by for a while without replacing the rocker followers though, because, ill only have them in for a few months anyway, then ill have my turbo kit by that time, and will put my stock cams back in the car! is there anywhere else to get them besides the dealer???
i wouldent worry about replacing the rocker arms............crower instructions do not say to replace them so dont bother.........
even on the big VTEC cams such as TODA and JUN dont say to replace the lifters...........
the only time i would recommend to replace them is if for some reason they were severly worn out......
just follow the break in procedure properly and use the assembly lube supplied with the cams and you should be fine......

you should contact jiixxni or somthing like that. He has tose cams on the B20 and ran 13.5 look under the Drag Racing Form(post: Just ran 13.XX at the track with stock B20) I've been speaking to him for the past few days about this the B18 no-vtec. He has really good advice as how adjust the idle and adjust the cam gears so that the car runs and idles smoothly. You'll be happy with them. Also check out Crowers website, they have dyno graphs of the cams in action.
