Default Crank Pulley

I'm changing the water pump and all belts off a 95 Honda Accord, and I can't get the bolt that holds the crank pulley to come off. Do you guys know of any easier techniques of getting this bolt off? I've used my own air guns, took it to a local FireStone tire shop, and took it to a local truck stop and used there air guns but didn't do nothing. Can any of you guys help?

I'm in the same boat as you. Air tools didn't work for me either. Moroso and others make a crank pulley holder wrench. The center of the pulley is a socket head and you hold the pulley while you loosen the bolt with a breaker bar. I should pick one up one of these days...

The easiest thing to do, take it to a local garage and have them break it free. Tighten it by hand and drive home. I have a local guy that charges me $5. Best $5 I spent.

you can search around for the hex tool. I shopped around online and got one for about $30. WELL worth it!

I had previously used the method where you remove the cluth access cover and stick something in the ring gear of the flywheel. Worked well but it was a lot more work. It's tough to get to all the bolts with the header on and with SOHC VTEC's, you've also got to remove the engine braces between the block and tranny.

One the motor is "blocked", slide and 8ft section of tube (chain link fence post will do) over your breaker bar and bust that biatch loose. I tried a number of air and power guns and never found one that could do the job.

Get a Matco 3/4 drive impact airgun with 175 psi air pressure and they always come off.

I've only seen one break, and that was going back on. (I didn't do it.)

For those without a garage or the tools to remove it, this^ is your best advise. I have had problems with air tools. I have a 1/2 inch drive 19mm impact (they don't make a 3/4 drive 19mm that i've seen) socket welded to a 3/4 inch drive extension and 3/4 inch breaker bar and it's still a bitch to get off.

Yank the starter off and wedge a big flathead between the teeth and press it against the tranny. It always works for me and my friends. I don't know how accessable the starter is on an accord though. But I HTH.

Have you tried any head on this yet? This will help free most of them up. The right tools work the best, but sometimes you have to work with what you got.

have you tried tightening it up with the impact, then loosening?? normally, if you tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen, etc., it will break loose.

Go to home depot and buy a 5 ft extension steel plumbing pipe. Give it everything you have. It'll come loose.

If you can pull on it a measily 100 ft lbs, which you should be able to, you'll be putting 500 ft lbs of torque on it. Try bouncing it some too to break it free. This process should take you less than 5 minutes.

yep get a decent extension or you will twist it off like butter and use a 5 foot pole.

also i think all air guns are rated at 120psi. if you run them at 175 for to long u wreck the flappers or something inside them.

i want the 600$ 1" impact 2000 ft lbs
Max torque 2,000 lbs
CFM 90 psi
forward/reverse
WT 22 lbs
Reversible side handle
1/2" Air inlet
For Max power use a 3/4" air line
Pull the trigger and hang on!
