me and my friend are having a discussion (argument) of which car is faster a corvette or a supra tt. If anybody has any information please let me know. I think the supra tt would smoke the vette, but he thinks otherwise.

Corvette. A stock C5 has that thing, plus Japan is notorious for sending "ringers" to the states. A "ringer" is a car that is tweaked more than the actual production line, making you think you get the performance of that particular car. It's a hoax.

From the showroom a Z06 will do a claimed 12.6 ET, what is that after is breaks in 12.3-12.4? And broken in with slicks? 11 sec times guaranteed.

You CANNOT lose with a Corvette.

I love Supras, BUT they look like a Brontisaurus (sp) head going down the road.

 

It was and is my dream to have a new Corvette.

You can go to anywhere in the world and they know what a Corvette is, I like that.

I guess I'm biased, but anyway, I do like the Supra. I'm not hating on anyone or the car itself. If it was my choice, I'd have both, but if I could only choose one, it would be the C5.

Vettes are OK. The new ones look 10x better than the older ones did IMO. I used to work at this frame shop and he had a contract with a guy that specialized in restoring and building custom vettes. We'd work on 3-4 a week, mostly mid '70s stingrays and the like. Dam I hated test driving those things. Worst visibility EVER and terrible handling. Ever do an alignment on one of those with AC? Nightmare. I like the newer ones a whole lot more, but I can't think of a less practical car, and it bothers me that the only way we seem to be able to build a fast car in this country is to take a light chasis and cram a huge displacement monster in there. Like a speedboat motor on a popsicle stick.

97+ is OK for reliability. As good as any American car. Prior to '97 they had the truly cruddy opti-spark ignition system. Just say no. Those things failed consistently, and cost a bundle to replace every time. Man I don't know what GM is thinking with all these crappy "performance" ignition systems. Ever have a GM with the AWSOME high energy ignition modules? Dam what a POS. Sorry off topic.

I think the ignition system was finally fixed in 97+ Vettes. If you can deal with the impractical nature of them, and it doesn't get too cold where you are. Go for it.

 

I kind of questioned that one too.

What if say there were oh I dunno perhaps 6 snowflakes on the 1/4 mile track and you raced the Vette with your GSR? Then who'd win?

Plus there IS more to vehicle performance than how fast it is for 1320 feet in a straight line.
