Default Compression Results, Need Feedback Please ----->

I just did a compression test on my Stock B16 SiR2 and need to know if these are ok. Engine has about 90K miles and does burn about 1qt of oil every 1K miles (10-30 Synthetic). Also, when I pulled the sparkplugs, they seemed a bit white so i think im running lean. Results i got a were 160 on all four cylinders.

Now for the questions

1. Would adjustable cam gears have any affect on a compression test? (i.e. if the i/e cam gears are advanced or retard)

2. Can I use an FPR and a VAFC to get the car back to a rich or stoich condition?

3. Would switching to a semi-syn 10-40 oil help reduce the oil consumption?

Thanks for looking. Any advice is greatly appreciated

answers:

1. i don't think so. low compression is due to worn rings, or broken ringlands.

2.do you have fpg? what fp are you at now? find this out first before trying VAFC

3.might help a little, depends on the internals condition.

these answers are to the best of my knowledge (i'm no pro!) but i hth.......

good luck.

Yes I have a B&M FPG and it set to 42 at idle and about 50 when revved. But I am still running on the stock D series fuel pump and injectors, so im not sure how much of a BIG diff that makes if any. The VAFC is not yet installed will be doing so soon.

Internals are still stock but still debating whether to drop in CTR head internals i.e. cams, valves, springs & retainers.

I will aslo be doing a leakdown test as soon as i get the tester to do it with. I would like to find out why my compression is where it is now (160 on all four), and how I can raise it before taking the head apart.

you should have over 200 compression on a stock b16. All of my bone stock d15s have about 180

there was another post on top of bonds; it had spam..well more like something nasty as ****..
the mods erased the post, you cant see it now...

It was not made for sirminder

As far as compression results; did you hold the throttle open when doing tests?
add a little cup of oil to each of the cyl. and do the test again to see if compression goes up a lot.
#'s seem low; but they are constant which is the main thing.

The stock b16 should be around 185 psi. Loss of around 25 accrost the board sounds like rings. Check the cyl. walls when you pull the head.

like i mentioned.. every stock honda d15 i've ever tested that was in good shape pulled numbers in the low 180s. unless your b16 has something wrong with it, the compression numbers should be atleast in the 200s
