collector match ups?

collector match ups?
has anybody ever matched up a 2.5' collector with a 2 1/4" or 3" to 2 3/4, etc.???
I bought a header with a 2.5" collector.. i just remembered my cat was 2 1/4.. before I go and put it on I want to know what im getting myself into. I figured its just as simple as drilling the holes larger so that the bolts line up and getting a thinner donut gasket.. but am i wrong?
